Last week, the whole world watched in stunned disbelief as a duck boat full of tourists sank in the Delaware River. The amphibious vehicle was apparently exhibiting mechanical problems on the afternoon of July 7, 2010 when it was struck by a barge.
In the hours following the accident, officials worked hard to find and rescue everyone who had been on board. However, it soon became clear that two people remained missing. Hope began to fade as the two remained missing on Thursday and by Friday both bodies had been located and identified.
The two people who lost their lives in this tragic crash were Hungarian students 20-year-old Szabolcs Prem and 16-year-old Dora Schwendtner.
The NTSB and others are currently investigating this accident to determine why the barge hit the tourists and what could’ve been done differently to avoid this tragic accident.
We extend our condolences to the families, friends, classmates and teachers of those killed in this Philadelphia duck boat accident.
